PS5 HDMI Repair
Customers frequently tell us that this is the first time they've ever broken the HDMI port on any Playstation they've owned. However, this is a fairly common damage, and fortunately, Red Fusion can fix it easily.
We have repaired numerous playstation HDMI ports throughout the years, however with the release of the new PS5, there appears to be a substantial increase in requests for this repair.
This is primarily due to factory-supplied low-cost components, such as brittle plastic port housing and low-quality HDMI ports.
How did it break?
Apart from normal wear and tear, the most typical method the port breaks is if you keep plugging and disconnecting the HDMI cord from the PS5 when moving from room to room or traveling with it.
Damage can also occur if the console is dropped while still connected in and the HDMI port and HDMI cable collide. If the HDMI port is plugged in with too much force, it can be broken.
In addition, we've found that many of the HDMI cables included with the consoles have a longer tip than conventional HDMI cables.
This could be an influence in overall stability because the tip doesn't penetrate all the way into the console, making the pressure more sensitive.
Can it be fixed?
PS5 HDMI ports are one of our most popular fixes around here.
The damaged port will be removed, and a new HDMI port will be soldered onto the board.
To retain the port in place, we utilize only high-end, better-than-factory HDMI parts and stronger solder.
While it is uncommon, there are situations when further damage occurs as a result of the port being damaged. Obviously, we won't know if there's any extra damage until we examine the board under our microscopes, but if we find any, we'll take images of the damage and let you know how much the additional work will cost. The most typical source of extra damage on PS5s is a previous failed repair attempt. We've witnessed damage to the board's surrounding areas if the HDMI port isn't removed properly.
We've seen shredded pads under the HDMI port when the port has been physically damaged or when the port has been improperly removed during an unsuccessful repair attempt.
We've seen consoles that have fallen over while plugged in, ripping the port off and ripping off the pads with them.
Port damage or a botched repair attempt can also result in knocked out or missing SMD components. SMD components may be found all throughout the board, including the HDMI port.
We've seen ports that have been pushed in so far that the HDMI port is no longer attached to the board and the SMD components behind it have shattered. So trust us, bringing your console to the Red Fusion shop is your best best chance to repair that broken HDMI port.
