Repair of HDMI port for PS5

Customers usually remark that this is the first time the HDMI port on a Playstation they've owned has ever broken.

Despite the fact that we have fixed many PlayStation HDMI ports throughout the years, there seems to be a noticeable rise in requests since the debut of the PS5. This is mostly because of low-cost factory-supplied parts, like flimsy plastic port housing and subpar HDMI ports.

How did it fail?

Aside from natural wear and tear, the most common way that the port fails is if you continually plugging and unplugging the PS5's HDMI cord when moving it from room to room or taking it on the road.

The HDMI port and HDMI cable may also be damaged if the console is dropped while it is still plugged in. The HDMI port can be damaged if it is plugged in firmly enough.

A lot of the HDMI cables that come with the consoles also have longer tips than standard HDMI cables, which is another thing we discovered.

Because the tip doesn't go all the way into the console, the pressure is more sensitive, which could have an impact on overall stability.

Is it repairable?

One of our most popular fixes here is for PS5 HDMI ports. A new HDMI port will be soldered onto the board after the damaged port has been removed. We only use premium, better-than-factory HDMI components and stronger solder to keep the port in place. Even though it seldom happens, there are times when damage to the port results in further damage.

Naturally, until we inspect the board under our microscopes, we won't know if there is any additional damage, but if there is, we will take pictures of the damage and inform you of the cost of the additional work.

The most frequent cause of additional damage on PS5s is an earlier unsuccessful repair attempt. If the HDMI port isn't removed carefully, we've seen damage to the board's surrounding areas.

When the HDMI port has been physically harmed or when the port has been illegally removed after a failed repair attempt, we've witnessed torn pads underneath the port.

Consoles have been known to tip over while plugged in, pulling the port off and the pads with them. SMD components that are knocked out or missing can also be caused by port damage or a failed repair attempt. The board's whole surface is covered with SMD components, including the HDMI port.

We've seen ports that have been pushed in so far that the SMD components underneath the HDMI port have broken and the port itself is no longer linked to the board.

Therefore, bringing your console to the Red Fusion store is your greatest option to fix that damaged HDMI port, in our opinion.
