Phone Microphone Issues

Microphone problems on phones can be very common. When you're trying to call someone and they can't hear a word you say, it might be aggravating. If everything else appears to be in order, your phone's microphone is most likely malfunctioning. The cause of this malfunction can be either software updates, third party apps or hardware issues (try to remember if you dropped your phone recently). We are bringing you some tips and tricks on how to try and fix your mobile phone microphone without going to repair shop. If this doesn’t work, Red Fusion experts will easily deal with the problem you might have.

1.       Restart – good old fashioned solution for everything, a simple restart of your device. Jokes aside, you should always try to restart your phone first, because this process clears all the apps you might have opened (in this case, maybe some third party apps were causing the problem), and it can possibly be a quick and easy fix for you.

2.       Cleaning – you are carrying your phone with you everywhere, right. That means that the device can become a huge dirt storage if you are not paying too much attention (especially dust, which can enter all those small cracks and openings on your smartphone). Cleaning your microphone really can fix the sound issues you might have. Just locate the charging port and you will find a small hole beside it, that’s your microphone. Try gently and slowly removing any possible dust from the whole with a pin or a small needle (and we can’t stress enough the word gently).

3.       Other devices – this may sound silly and impossible, but it actually happens to a lot of people. You might not realize or forget that your phone is connected to a Bluetooth device at times. Because most of these devices have their own microphone, the phone may not operate. As a result, make sure your phone is disconnected from other Bluetooth devices and restarted.

4.       Third party apps – we have already mentioned that third party apps may be a cause for your weird microphone behavior. For this fix, you should run your phone in safe mode, disabling all unwanted third party apps temporarily. How to check which app is using the microphone? Simply go to settings, apps, apps permissions, and there you will find Microphone permissions. Disable those unwanted apps and use a recorder to try out your microphone, or just try with a test call.

5.       Software – In some cases, many software issues may be resolved simply by updating your phone. You should check if you have a software update pending, and just update your phone. There is a chance that this will resolve your microphone problems if it was a software issue.

6.       Bixby – if you own a Samsung smartphone, there is a slight chance that the Bixby Voice is causing the microphone issues. In that case, you should try and disable it. Just find Bixby Voice in your settings and force stop that app.

These were some simple solutions to the problem of your phone's mic not working. If your problem persists after you've tried all of these solutions, you should take it to Red Fusion repair shop, because it could be a hardware issue. We will be glad to help you!
